The Clear Aligner Treatment Process
On average, most of our clear aligner wearers achieve amazing smile-restoring results within six to 24 months. SureSmile is recommended for patients with mild-to-moderate teeth misalignments or improper bites (oral malocclusions), while patients with more serious orthodontic concerns are referred by Dr. Ali and Dr. Kraipak to an orthodontist. If you are a candidate for clear aligners, this is what you can expect during your course-of-treatment:
- Detailed impressions of your teeth and mouth are taken, along with digital X-rays and photos using our comfortable intraoral camera and intraoral, low-dose radiation exposure X-ray device. All information is then sent to a lab.
- At the SureSmile lab, your aligners will be crafted with computer-aided precision for maximum performance and comfort. Once your custom trays are ready, we’ll call you to come and pick them up.
- Your aligners are meant to be worn 20 to 22 hours each day, including while asleep, and only should be removed for brushing, flossing, and eating. If you don’t follow these instructions, you may have to continue the treatment for several more weeks or months.
- If the level of smile correction needed is more pronounced, after your SureSmile treatment, it may be necessary to wear a nighttime retainer for several additional months to ensure your smile goals are achieved.

Is there anything I can’t eat with clear aligners?
One of the many benefits of SureSmile is that the clear aligners are removable, which means you don’t have to abide by a long list of dietary restrictions. With that said, there are some foods that can chip a tooth or break an attachment, like hard pretzels, which is why we recommend exercising caution with crunchy foods if you choose to indulge. For similar reasons, we recommend cutting back on treats that are loaded with added sugar, like taffy and lollipops.
What should I do if I lose an aligner?
Start by retracing your steps, starting with the last place you know you had them. Since your aligners are see-through, it’s important to be very thorough. Make sure to look in the not-so-obvious places too, like the center console of your car, the pockets of the pants you were wearing earlier, and the waste bin in your kitchen.
If you’ve looked and looked, but your attempt to find your aligners is ultimately unsuccessful, then call our Frisco dental office. That way, we can determine if a replacement set needs to be made or if it’s safe for you to move on to the next set in the series a bit early.
How long does clear aligner treatment take?

Will I need to wear a retainer after clear aligner treatment?
